For today’s post I’ve compiled a list of productivity tips from 5 of my favourite bloggers. They are all successful in their own right and have become authorities in their field. This list shows what it is that these people do to stay at the top of their game.
Each blogger has given me three top tips for that they feel are key to achieving productivity.

1. Stop prioritizing email.
Email is very important to my business, but only a small percentage of it. Most of it does not need my immediate attention. I have an admin person filter my email and then I personally go through it once or twice a week. I deal with a handful of really important emails within 24 hours, but most do not relate to things to move my business forward, so this is definitely my number one productivity tip.
2. Take lots of breaks.
Your ability to produce quality diminishes after about an hour of consistent work, so rather than struggle and force yourself to get more done, take breaks and do other activities. I like to mix computer work with physical work so I stay fresh. This results in more productivity when it is work time.
3. Eat, drink and sleep well.
Cover the basics if you want to perform at your peak when it’s time to get work done. That’s a no-brainer, but pretty much everyone I know gets this wrong.

1. I love lists.
I have task lists on my desk for major quarterly tasks, monthly items, weekly items and daily items. It helps me prioritize and keep goals in perspective as well as view the progress I’ve made on big projects.
2. Tackle something big early in the day.
Jumping right in and tackling one of your most challenging items first thing in the morning can help you gain momentum for the whole day. Same goes for the week: a big task accomplishment or win on Monday helps motivate you to rock all week.
3. Refer to the experts.
If I’m stuck or having a hard time getting creative or motivated on a certain project, I often find reviewing a chapter or two of a good book on the subject can help excite, inspire, and motivate me.

1. Focus on one thing at a time.
Multi-tasking is certainly a growing phenomenon, but I still think that if you want to be as productive as possible you need to focus all your attention upon the task at hand.
Even if you focus on one thing at a time, you still won’t get anywhere if you keep doing the not-so-important stuff as it comes up. You need to prioritize and work first on the tasks that will yield the highest results. The Pareto principle in other words.
3. Batch process.
You can save a lot of time if you process your smaller tasks in batches. For example, instead of answering email as it comes, albeit important it might be, fix two times in your day where you will sit, read and reply to all the necessary emails. Outside of that time window you shouldn’t touch it.

1. Work Offline
I am always amazed at how much I get done when I don’t have internet access. Between random instant messengers, twitter messages, email sometimes you gotta disconnect.
2. Make lists on paper of what you need to get done today.
The bare minimum. Look at the list often throughout the day. Make additions as needed.
3. Take breaks and get out of your environment.
I cant stress how important this is.

1. Always move the task you are least looking forward to doing to the top of your to-do list.
2. Before you start any task that you expect to take more than 1 hour, spend 5 minutes looking for short-cuts and ways to be more efficient in doing that task. Often when we start a big task without analysis we realize short-cuts and time-savers after we have already done most of the work. At that point, they have little benefit.
3. Find ways to enjoy what you are doing – then you will be productive in spite of yourself.
Create your own Top Tips
There are some common tips here that have featured on my site, but don’t think that each tip will work for you. Five people have created different answers on what works for them, and it is important for you to try out a few things and see what you get the most results from. I believe there are always little things that we can tweak that will increase productivity and help us to get things done!
Here is my top 3 list:
1. Do the most important thing early in the morning.
Getting your most important task done early definitely gives you momentum and going through the day knowing that you’ve got the big task done makes the other tasks so much easier. I recently wrote an article about prioritising tasks here.
2. Make a to-do list
I’m a fan of writing things down on paper, and the thing that I write down the most is a to-do list. I like having a list at my side constantly glaring at me with things to do. 3. Take a break
The quality of my work falls noticeably after a few hours, and so I always take breaks, whether I’m making a cup of tea or having a quick update from Sky Sports News, I’ll spend about 10-15 minutes relaxing so that I’m ready to start work again. I split my work day up and don’t follow the whole 8 hours work routine that seems to be the accepted standard now.
